GB Components Are Back! ...And You Can Have Their Cycling Cap

GB Display at Interbike
One of the things I was truly excited to see at Interbike was the GB display. GB Components (the initials stand for the founder Gerry Burgess) are known to vintage bicycle lovers, particularly the handlebars. Well, the company is now re-establishing itself under the ownership of the original founder's son (Jeremy Burgess), and the prototypes of their new, made in the UK components were modestly on display.

GB Lugged Stem
These include a gorgeous lugged stem (both quill and threadless models),

GB Wingnut
sculptural-looking wingnuts, handlebars, and other components. I have more photos that I will include in my big Interbike write-up, but these should give you an idea of their beauty. I spoke with the GB representative for a while, and may get to review some of the components as they go into production - will keep you posted.

GB Cycling Cap
In the meantime, I would like to give you their cycling cap. These were being given away as promotional items at Interbike, and they are rather nice.

GB Cycling Cap
The cap is white summer-weight cotton, with a single black ribbon stripe and an embroidered GB logo on the underside of the visor. The crown is rounded. The size is what I would call a Medium.

I have exactly one of these to give away. Leave a comment saying you want it, and I will select the recipient at random. Deadline is Sunday, 18th September, 11:59 pm US Pacific time (which is also the deadline for the Touring Bike entries!) Thanks as always for reading, and enjoy your weekend!

  1. I'd be interested in seeing their threadless headset. In spite of being an abomination I still ride with one!

  2. Cap! Cap! I want a cap! Following your Interbike exploits with interest (and envy),

  3. I will gradually be posting the Interbike pictures on flickr this weekend; I have so many it's overwhelming!

Looks like I will be rocking the "no sleep, no make-up look" for a couple more days : )

  4. WANT. not just the cap, but one of those lovely stems. wow.
i hope they put out a sweet pathracer frame, if they end up making more than just components.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well I'd like the cap but I'm not sure if you're prepared to send it to the UK... worth a shot, I suppose!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I would love the cap! I tried to make one for myself recently and it came out all wrong.

  7. My original GB stem on my Falcon is an aluminum casting. What would be the purpose of simulating a lug in an aluminum casting other than looks? Even the stem in your photo looks like a polished casting rather than a real lug. Perhaps they gave some logical reason for what looks suspiciously like fashion without purpose?

And yes, a GB cap would be very nice to go with me when I ride the Falcon, with the GB stem. Unfortunately, that stem is the only GB component on any of my bikes. Even the Falcon used a Cinelli handlebar.

  8. Don't worry, you look great V.
I love the GB stuff, I hope they sell lots. I always thought it stood for "Great Britain" so now I know.

  9. Also following with interest and would also like to *ahem* toss my cap in the ring for the cap giveaway.

  10. I want a cap! Mainly because I have a '51 Raleigh w/ GB components to match it! I'd be sylin, no doubt...

    ReplyDelete
  11. GB! I love GB. I have GB bars on two bikes and, if I could find them, would put them on my newest project - 1959 British frame with an obscure name. The CAP, however, would be a perfect match to any bike. I love random.

    Please.

    Owen

  12. Oh em gee! That lugged stem is awesome. I can't wait for more new GB components.

I'll put a dib in for the cap too if you don't mind posting to the UK :). It will match my bars and stem.

  13. Read you blog daily. I'm green over not being able to attend interbike. I'd like to 'throw my hat into the ring" for the cap, please.

  14. @Velouria

What with all the recent touring and pace lining, no doubt you and cohabitant will expand into randonees next year. So, I think the mug shots are a preview of your PBP look.

  15. I like cap, but don't want it. It's probably too big for my lil noggin. :) But I've been enjoying all the Interbike photos! Must have been loads of fun.

  16. I want that stem.....zomg...must have.

<_< I gotta save more money for bike parts.

  20. May I please have it?

Almost twenty years and some 50 lbs ago I raced, worked in a shop and rode everywhere. Then came school, marriage, work, kids, business trips and a few relocations. I'm now living in London and in the past few months I've really been enjoying the feeling of rediscovering my love for the bicycle, riding and, well, riding to ride. I've lost nearly 25 lbs and feel great. I ride my rollers to stay in shape and commute to the office in the City, suited and booted, as they say here, on my Roadater Sovereign. Such a hat would be in good hands with me and appropriately worn.

    Enjoy Interbike and stay upright.

Thanks for your wonderful blog and keep up the good work for real people, riding real bikes in real clothes!

I was thinking that as well! I know they have some sort of relationship with Pashley, and I think Mercian should partner up with them to make a lightweight pathracer with all-UK components.

  23. I must get the stem and wignuts for my sketchy

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey, I'll put my name in the mix for the cap!

    ReplyDelete
  25. townmouse & others abroad - If you are okay with 1st class shipping, I can manage that to the UK and continental EU.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The hat, I would like it :)

Their threadless stem does look nice, and it is lugged, you can see the somewhat-shoddy shorelines in the polished stainless.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh yeah! I definitely want it!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Will trying my luck for the cap jinx my chances for the bike? Oh well, might as well try. Count me in! :)

  29. "I was thinking that as well! I know they have some sort of relationship with Pashley, and I think Mercian should partner up with them to make a lightweight pathracer with all-UK components. "

You, madam, are the worst sort of enabler.

    (laughs)

    Those stems look very promising.

I too would like a chance at the cap.

  30. I'm kind of a cycling cap fanatic, so I really hope I win.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hmm just found and uploaded a picture of the threadless stem (now also added to the text of the post) and realised it does not have a faceplate. For me that's one of the great benefits of threadless, so that's too bad.

  32. I'd love to have a GB cap -- count me in. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. i noticed the haircut too, looks nice

    ReplyDelete

  39. Have you considered wearing the cap to one of those bakery-bikery-arteries you frequent, luring another impulsive rich lady into trading it for something more valuable, and giving that away?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Me - Me - Want!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Whoa those components are so, so gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ooh, a cycling cap. It'd be my first since '84. I'd love it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Looks like I will be rocking the "no sleep, no make-up look" for a couple more days : )"

Please store that statement and the two photos and revisit again in 20 years. Your 20 yr older self will ask, "What the heck was I thinking when I wrote that?!?"

    ReplyDelete
  44. Those wingnuts are gorgeous; I don't have a bike that they'd really work on but they'd be a great excuse to assemble a new one.

The cap is lovely, but please don't enter me into the drawing.

    -Matt

  45. love the hair cut!!

( no cap for me. hats don't stay on my head of hair without a chinstrap.... they look great on you though)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I want it!

It's the perfect match to my bike!
It's nice to see GB come back, I always liked the vintage appeal of their components while browsing e-bay even though out of my monetary reach.

  47. As a bicycling noob, I could totally use a cap. It's on my list of things I "need".

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'll throw my hat in the ring...for a hat.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If I'm not too late, I'd love the cap. It would look great with the original GB stem and bars on my current restoration project!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love cycling caps... I'm always on the prowl for new ones. Unfortunately, the shops in my area don't seem to stock them.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would love this cap and wear it proudly!
    Thanks for making things fun!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'll throw my hat in the ring for the cap... is that a mixed metaphor?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I would love the cap for my wife.
She insists that i were a silly helmet for my safety. :)
She might relent if she had a cool cap to wear.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thank you! The contest is over and I will announce the winner tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Whatever happened with this? I never saw a winner announced. = /

    ReplyDelete
  56. So, may I please have the hat?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes, if you let me know your *email address*

Have tried 2 people so far through their links and haven't been able to get in touch.
