Bike Reacts to Controversial Imagery

I was taking a walk around my neighborhood when I spotted a Dutch bicycle, looking disapprovingly at this poster. I am not sure whether the owner of the bike locked it up in front of the poster intentionally, but I couldn't get over the similarity of "colourways" and the bicycle's disapproving posture as it faced the image.

The poster is for an exhibition at the Kunsthaus Wien called Kontroversen - Justiz, Ethik und Fotografie ("Controversies - The Law, Ethics and Photography"). I hope to visit it over the weekend.

  1. The bike is looking longingly, not disaprovingly! :-)

  2. excellent!

it seems to me this dutchman's (the bike's) judgment is a bit outdated, given the socially accepting attitude of modern day netherlanders... maybe he's a relic of older times?

  3. Are you sure you are well enough for this? First, you were trapped in a lewd hospital and now confronted by sacreligious posters.

  4. I know, the themes in this blog seem to be going in that direction lately. Must be frustration from being away from the sexy Co-Habitant.

  5. Actually, if you look closely, that bike is not really looking at the poster at all, it's slyly winking at that cute French job off to the right of the Kiosk, out of the frame of the photo.

As we all know, bikes regard humans as mere engines by which they are gotten around from place to place.

  6. Oh the poor thing... it fainted at such a display of lasciviousness and needed that upside-down green "U" as support. ;)

  8. I've seen the exhibition now and it is quite good. The photos were grouped into several themes including overly-graphic nudity, scenes of suffering or torture, misleading or retouched images, and images over which there has been an intellectual property battle. The Kissing Nun photo was actually one of the least interesting in the show, which should tell you something. It was one of the most thoughtfully put-together exhibitions I have been to in years, and the KunstHaus Wien itself is a must-see.
