I have not put them on yet, but I am looking forward to testing them out. Until now I've been a devout Conti Top Touring user for my Raleighs, but they are getting hard to find. Interesting that you compare them to Schwalbe Marathons - that is what we have on our Bromptons. The marathons are great, but even at only 16" they cost ~ $15 more than their 26" sibling. Granted, some road bikes don't have the necessary clearance, but a Schwinn ought to. Road bike fenders usually fit pretty close to the tire. It's important to note that fenders come in different sizes to match tire width. Velo Orange has a good section on fenders.
Hope this helpsMr. CrankyPantsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6467858377106451384.post-24303483808024353572009-08-21T22:34:21.869-04:002009-08-21T22:34:21.869-04:00Oh man, I LOVE those tires! That's a minor difference, though, because the system still needs to clear the fender, just like with a regular brake.

The other 3-speed has regular brakes.

Both are factory, together with fenders, so Raleigh made sure that everything is designed with enough clearance in mind.

I am surprised to hear that a vintage road bike with 27" wheels does not have enough space for fenders. Both of our Motobecanes (which use Weinmann center-pull caliper brakes) have loads of clearace for fat tubes + Honjos. I have a question. I just got a vintage woman's road bike and I want to put fenders on it. It has 27" wheels and caliper brakes. It doesn't look like there's room for a fender on the back wheel to fit under the brake. But from these pictures it looks like Rodney has fenders and caliper brakes with 28" wheels. How is that possible?Linneahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01872989733984467567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6467858377106451384.post-2333569546520636962009-08-21T14:21:19.899-04:002009-08-21T14:21:19.899-04:00I think the look of the cream tires is great thoug...I think the look of the cream tires is great though it is a bit of a bummer that the 28s don't have reflective sidewalls.Cosmohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08364487305473753277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6467858377106451384.post-48237950885484138832009-08-21T12:47:57.137-04:002009-08-21T12:47:57.137-04:00Anon., what makes you think that Gazelle uses only...Anon., what makes you think that Gazelle uses only Schwalbe?
