Who Wants a T-Shirt?

The other day I received a couple of t-shirts from Jon Gehman (maker of the Roadster Rack I wrote about earlier). These come in funky colours and are made based on his pen and ink drawings of wacky bike cartoons. I have more t-shirts than I know what to do with, so I thought it would be fun to give them away! Here is what I got:

"Biker Chick". This t-shirt is sage green and features a drawing of a Mennonite(?) woman in a bonnet and apron, riding a step-through bicycle with a basket and baby chicks on the rear rack. (Take that, WSJ!) The size is marked "M", but I would say it is an XS-S - suitable either for ladies size 0-4, a child, or a very scrawny man. It is longish in the torso. 100% cotton.

"Go Gitcher Bike, Let's Roll!" This t-shirt is bright turquoise and features a drawing of a mischievous boy, about to take off on his 1950s banana seat cruiser. The size is marked "L", and I would say it is a ladies' L / men's M. In the picture I am cinching it at the waist, but in actuality it is loose throughout. 100% cotton.

If you'd like one of these t-shirts, please leave a comment with the funniest, or silliest, or stupidest, or cleverest bicycle-related slogan you have seen (or came up with yourself), and don't forget to mention which of the two shirts you want. I will pick a recipient for each t-shirt at the end of this weekend. Continental USA only please (unless you are willing to pay for the shipping). As some of you know, I am very bad with mailing stuff, but I promise I'll be good on this one and will try to send the shirts to their rightful owners quickly!

[Edited to add:  The recipient of the green t-shirt is sarahgringa. Turquoise shirt goes to MandG.  Please email your mailing address to: filigreevelo-at-yahoo-dot-com! ]

  1. I will start! I just asked Jon if he'd make a shirt with a drawing of a seal on a unicycle and the caption "Seal is Real". Hardy har har... But yeah, I'd wear it. I mean, if it's a good looking seal.

  2. Oh darn..they are both so cute but not my size range..LOL

I still think my favorite bike saying/picture is "Put the fun between your legs"

  3. I wasn't going to enter since I rarely do, but how can I not seeing as the first shirt is a Mennonite-biker-chick! That's me in a nutshell, just not with the conservative Menno garb (you know, most of us don't fit that stereotype anymore).
I'd wear a shirt that said "I'm bike curious" but instead of being about the LGBT community it would have a goofy drawing of a bike that was part road, part mixte, part cruiser, etc etc. These days I can't seem to decide which I like best.

  4. Velouria, recently you said "God, I guess I do have too many bikes." Haha! That's a good one.
I guess should be a bit more original. My husband, with whom I have serious bike incompatibility :), told me the other day that contrary to my way of thinking, he thought bikes should increase one's carbon footprint- meaning he wanted a carbon frame. I think the lycra set could enjoy at t-shirt like that.
    Love the green shirt, BTW!

  5. BTW- sarahgringa, if you draw a "bike curious" shirt, I'll buy one from you! That's great.

  6. "No, I never was a toad" or,

"there is nothing quite so worth doing as simply messing about on bikes"

  7. I did a t-shirt photo gallery on a bike tour many, many years ago. I should dig that out and look. It was long before the age of digital cameras.

All I can remember is this one...."Sure my butt hurts, but it helps me forget my hangover!" That's the best I got. Ha!

I do love that chicken lady! There was a guy in my hometown who I once saw with a baby pig in each of his back baskets. I also once witnessed him hauling a small fridge on the back of his bike.

  8. When I was writing the truss frame post earlier, I came upon an Iver Johnson advert that said "Don't plod home from work like a weary beat of burden. Jump on a bicycle." Indeed!

  9. I remember another! "Oh shift!"

    < snicker >

  10. if two guys named paul opened a bike shop they could call it "the ticking pauls".

a bike-themed thriller b-movie could be called "the silence of the pawls".

  11. "Holier than Cow" on Rivendell's vegan (leather-free) line of bike bags. I'd like the green one please :)

  12. I once saw a t-shirt with a picture of a gas pump and a cyclist with the slogan "I pass gas". (OK, can you tell I have two sons?) I really like the biker chick T-Shirt.

  13. That first shirt is *amazing* - I love it! :-)

"Put the fun between your legs" is my absolute favorite, but since that's already taken I'll just say that I <3 "Coaster braking through life" - since I currently ride a cruiser :-)

  14. It's fixed.

"Biker chick" won't fit me. But I love it!

  15. i don't wish to enter the t-shirt competition, but i thought you might appreciate this one: "if it's not fixed, it's broken."

  16. I forgot to mention that ZOMGbicycles! 7/20 pictorial of a Pletscher double kickstand made me laugh out loud. I have the same stand, and I'll never look at it the same way again.

  17. If you don't like it, bike me!

  18. somervillain - yours had to be explained to me : )

kiwigem - Yes, I've seen the "kickstand porn" on Zomgbicycles. Scandalous!

  19. I'm not entering the contest, I just like the cute sayings. The best one I have seen is 'spend your summer behind bars'.
And I think the woman on the green shirt might be either Amish, Brennan or Hutterite. The Mennonite women in this neck of the woods don't dress anything like that. Maybe it is different in the States.

  20. To ride or not to ride,
    that is a stupid question.

  21. The lady on the shirt is an amalgam of all my Mennonite relatives from Virginia, Pennslyvania and Indiana. Like the other poster said we don't all fit the visual stereotype anymore but the idea still works. My Amish relatives for the most part are from areas where they don't use bikes, just scooters with solid tires. I will say that all of them that have seen the shirts since I started making them have liked them and nobody yet has given me a hard time(if they thought it was'nt funny they would have let me know...)
